Last Sunday we visited a small “wildlife park” (the term “wildlife” is a bit generous here) called Druidstone Park. It’s located almost exactly halfway between Whitstable and Canterbury, just outside of the village of Blean. The day was beautiful and begging for an outdoor activity, so out we went.
There are several animals to visit and feed (donkeys, sheep, goats, cows, chickens, geese, ponies, alpacas, fallow deer, and pigs), two excellent play areas for kids, a cafe, and a pleasant trail through the “enchanted woodland”. We started by spending a good deal of time on the play equipment, of course, and then headed to the animal pens to see who we could meet and feed.
The unicorn in the woods was pretty exciting! The Hobbit house, not so much…
The giant footprints were also very exciting! We hunted for giants, but never found any. We concluded that the footprints must have been made a long time ago by the big oak tree.
The most exciting thing of all was the big dragon sleeping in the woods! Unbelievably, the kids weren’t scared at all!
After the park, we strolled up the hill into Blean, where we got a snack and played at yet another playground. AND…I got my tickets for the 5th of November bonfire celebration in nearby Tyler Hill! Very psyched about that!
