July 5, 2012
Today we left the United Kingdom after nearly 12 months.
We rode the train from Ayr to Paisley, took a cab from Paisley Station to the Glasgow International Airport, and after a nearly 4-hour wait, we were on a plane bound for Iceland.
It is impossible to sum-up our exceptional year in this rich, welcoming, and wonderful country. It was sometimes revelatory, often maddening, occasionally inspirational, and at times absolutely magical. We have fallen in love with Great Britain. The people, the culture, the language (and accents!), the history, and the quirks. We are committed to returning to live in this wonderful place again, be it for a few months or a few years.
We will be processing the memories, trials, and adventures for years to come (and will hash lots of things out in future blog posts, I’m sure!).
I hope Charlie and Flora remember a little of this year. I don’t dare to hope that they hold on to their British vocabulary or ever-so-slight accents…
See you soon, UK. You’ve been very good to us. We will miss you.
